Tom Bates served as Mayor of Berkeley for 14 years (2002-2016), as a California State Assembly Member for two decades, and as an Alameda County Supervisor. His record in the State Legislature includes authoring more than 220 bills that became law, including legislation to create the Eastshore State Park, to provide state funding for urban creeks, and to require regional transportation plans to include the use of bicycles. As Berkeley Mayor he led efforts in creation of the David Brower Center and Berkeley’s Climate Action Plan. Bates is a native Californian and graduate of the University of California, Berkeley.  Bates previously served as Vice-President of CESP.
