CESP Celebrates 40 Years of Advocacy
On Sunday, September 21, 2025, Citizens for East Shore Parks (CESP) celebrated its 40th anniversary at the Berkeley Yacht Club.
CESP reflected on four decades of successful environmental advocacy for parks and open space along the eastern shoreline of San Francisco Bay and the collective victories with our partners, allies, and supporters.
These are the victories we have achieved together in transforming our shoreline from a dumping ground into a linkage of parks, habitat, and recreational open space. CESP has played a pivotal role in creating the McLaughlin Eastshore State Park (Oakland to Richmond), the Point Molate Park (newest park in the world-class East Bay Regional Park District), the magnificent Tom Bates Regional Sports Complex, completion of the Bay Trail connection at Golden Gate Fields, and miles of enhancements of shoreline park and open space. We also look forward to bringing the Golden Gate Fields property into the McLaughlin Eastshore State Park.
Our keynote speaker for the celebration was Jeremy Lowe of the San Francisco Estuary Institute who presented his Restoration Concept for the Golden Gate Fields site.
